Throughout our lives we all face physical limitations. Many survivors suffer from adrenal fatigue, chronic pain, PTSD, and other ailments. It is easy to become ensnared in self-pity and comparing our abilities to the abilities and health of others when we are feeling unwell. Worse yet, we sometimes tear ourselves apart over how we think our bodies should be able to function. Negative self talk only depletes reserves that are already low.

There are numerous situations in which we are powerless over our health and physical limitations, however we do have the power over how we choose to treat ourselves. It’s time to nurture you.

Activity:

  • Sit in a comfortable place and close your eyes.
  • Think back to a time when you felt cared for by someone else.
  • What was it about the situation that made you feel that way?
  • Write down a list of all of the aspects that made you feel cared for in that situation.
  • Read each of the items on your list aloud, preceded by the words “I can.”

Affirmation: I listen to my physical needs and take time to nourish my body.

Journal Cue: Write about physical limitations you’ve experienced in your life, and how you would like to care of yourself when these arise.
